There are several types of window;
-
Casement. This is basically the type
of window in which sashes(parts that hold the glass) open on hinges like
doors. They are usually made up of opening sashes and fixed(non-opening)
sashes. There are many variations but generally if a sash moves away from
the window frame in some degree then it can be classed as casement.
-
Sliding Sash. The most common is
the vertical sliding sash, horizontal sliding sash being usually made of
metal. the sashes should overlap but are often difficult to move because
of broken sash-cords(thin rope fixed to the sides of the sashes and use weights
and pulleys to control the movement of the sash) or jammed up with overpainting.

Brushes required. 1"(25mm), 2"(50mm). In general use the size of brush you
feel most comfortable with. I have seen some professional painters do nearly
everthing with a 4" brush but it needs a great deal of skill and experience.
Generally you should use as small a brush as you think necessary. For windows
and intricate cutting in work it is best to use worn down brushes if you
have them. New brushes can be shaped by carefully burning the bristles and
then sandpapering them.
