Estimates, quotes and prices
The best way is to try and get at least three estimates from similar kinds
of traders. A large company will obviously charge more(because of their
overheads) than a sole trader, so price comparisons between them would be
unfair. Note the difference between a quote and an estimate. An estimate
is just that and will possibly change; a quote is firm price for the project
and should also include the precise time-frame for the project.
Many people prefer to buy the wallpaper themselves; this gives them time
to look around and choose at leisure before they even approach a professional
to hang it. In such cases make sure you have sufficient paper for the job;
it is advisable to get one more roll than you need. Going back to the store
later, you are likely to find that the batch number for your choice is no
longer in stock.
When it comes to wallpaper many people want to supply the wallpaper themselves
and will want a quote for the labour chrge only.
Going for the cheapest is sometimes risky. A reputable company or a genuine
tradesman will not ask for money in advance, even to cover the cost of
materials.
Cowboys and con-men, on the other hand, almost always ask for cash in
advance.
In the UK as a rough guide currently you can expect to pay £15 - £20
per roll for paperhanging by a professional.
In the USA as a rough guide currently you can expect to pay $50 - $100 per
roll for paperhanging by a professional.
