Paint removal: common problems
-
Stripper did not work very well
-
Some stripping agents, especially "safe" strippers, need to be covered with
plastic to prevent them drying out before they have had a chance to work.
Sometimes they need to be left overnight.
-
Which is better, chemical strippers or burning off with a blowtorch.
-
A blowtorch is cheaper and very effective but can be dangerous and is not
suitable in a lots of cases. A hotair gun is useful for small jobs where
time is not important. Intricate detailed trim is best coated with a liquid
or semi-paste chemical as burning can cause damage to fine detail.
- How doI get paint off floors
- Probably the best way is to use a heavy duty mechanical sander. These can usually be hired from a local hire shop.
