Egyptian is not a true monoline – the vertical strokes are adjusted, made thicker for optical balance. But the overall impression of a monoline face is retained by avoiding the Clarendon-like thinning-out of joints that’s found in the bolder weights of Beton and Rockwell. And most distinctively, the capitals and lower case have the same stroke weight.
Egyptian is the “oldest” slab serif typeface.
