Painting a sliding sash window or box window
-
Paint the window in the order shown in the diagrams.
-
First cross the sashes over so that the crossbar of the outer sash is exposed.
 Sliding
Sash. The most common is the vertical sliding sash, horizontal sliding
sash being usually made of metal. the sashes should overlap but are often
difficult to move because of broken sash-cords(thin rope fixed to the sides
of the sashes and use weights and pulleys(hidden inside the window frame, the box)
to control the movement of the sash) . Another reason the window sashes are
difficult to move is that they often get jammed up with overpainting.
Tips.
Paint windows as early in the day as possible so that they will be dry to
close at night otherwise they may stick.
Using masking tape to protect the glass will make your cutting-in job easier,
but do not remove the tape until the paint is dry.
Before removing masking tape, go round the edges with a sharp blade or craft
knife and then you can remove it cleanly without pulling off any of the
paint.
Removing window fittings keeps them clean and makes for a better paint
finish.
If you need something to hold the sash after taking off the fittings use
a suction cap on the glass or put a screw partially back into one of the
screw holes.
