Wallpaper Borders

When fixing borders it is best if you can do each length of wall with a single piece.
Some borders are self adhesive. Cut a length to the size you need, there is no need to fold it, just roll it up loosely and undo about 2ft at a time pelling off the backing paper as you go. Stick on very lightly at first so that you can reposition it as you go along.
The picture on the right shows a trompe l'oeil border painted by hand. Having it done this way ensures you get an original but it is a lot more expensive.
Borders which are not self-adhesive need to be pasted like wallpaper. They are not rolled up but folded concertina wise, making the folds no bigger than 6". Borders pasted like this are very flexible and easy to reposition. If the wallcovering underneath is vinyl then you will need to use a special Border Adhesive.
If you need to use more than one piece to do a wall then overlap carefully so that the pattern matches exactly and cut through the middle of the overlap removing the surplus pieces of border.

Tip. If you find borders a bit too expensive or you can't find the one you want you can make your own in various ways:
     1. Painting your own border onto the wall by hand.
     2. Using a stencil.
     3. Cutting your border from a roll of wallpaper. A striped wallpaper is best for this purpose and you will get far more border than you need.
