Decorating Defects - their cause and cure Removing Stains from Brickwork, Concrete, etc.
The extent of the difficulty of removing old oil stains from brickwork, stonework, concrete, or cement, will depend largely on the depth to which the oil has penetrated. and their elimination may take time.
A solvent such as petrol, benzene, or acetone should be used for the purpose and should be liberally applied, not directly on to the affected area (which may have the effect of driving the oil further down) but around it. A paste made from the solvent with dry sifted whiting or fuller's earth should be applied as a poultice over the stain itself and the parts where the solvent has been used, and left until the latter has evaporated. It will
probably be necessary to repeat this treatment several times.
