Murals
The mural is the oldest form of interior decoration. Many cave paintings have survived to the present day; some being over 30,000 years old. On cave walls throughout France are prehistoric paintings from the Paleolithic Era. The pictures depict birds, mammoths, bears, horses and human activities such as hunting. Among the most noteworthy caverns are the Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave in the Ardegraveche region and the Cosquer Cave near Marseilles. The Lascaux Cave may be the most striking with over 1500 pictures. There are examples of cave wall decoration on every continent.
